Admin Guide: Preparing Maps

Global Rules

WHAT YOU CAN SEE:

Territory Boundaries: Each territory is defined by its shape on the map.

GPS: Tap the location icon to see where you are in relation to the boundaries.

OFFLINE USE:

Map Identification: Even without internet, you can tap any territory to see its Number and Name.

ONLINE USE WHEN LOGGED IN:

The BOOK OUT button uses a color gradient based on how long it has been since the territory was last returned.

AVAILABILITY GRADIENT:
Just Returned Ready to Work (60+ days)

Blue: No accurate records uploaded.

The RETURN button allows you to return territories that are either booked out in your name or your congregation.

MANAGING TERRITORY:

Booking Out: Tap an available territory to see who had it last and when it was returned.

Status & Duration: Maps currently "Out" show the publisher's name and the date they took it (e.g., Since: 12/01/2024).

Return Button: Only appears for territories assigned to you or your specific team.

!!! OVERDUE !!!: This warning appears on territories that have been out for more than 60 days.

MAP TYPES:

Residential: Standard house-to-house maps.

Business: Commercial and store-front areas.

Use the toggle at the top of the map to switch between these types.

1. Get the Master File If you have access, save the KML/KMZ file containing your outer boundaries.
2. Create in Google MyMaps Go to Google MyMaps.
Look for the red + Create a New Map button.

Click on Untitled Map and change the map's name.

If you have a KML/KMZ file:
Click Import on the left panel and upload your Master KML file.
If you don't have a KML/KMZ file:
Carefully draw it using the add a line or shape button. Long press the draw a line icon under the search bar to find it.
Tip: Toggle between Map and Satellite view (bottom left). Satellite view is helpful for tracing boundaries along physical landmarks.
3. Organize & Split Territories If you already have maps: Trace them directly into MyMaps. outline each territory clearly.

Naming territories: Click the three dots (⋮) next to the layer name and select Open Data Table. Renaming each row like this:

The app uses "Natural Sorting," so 1, 2, 10, 20 will appear in the correct numerical order.
⚠️ Warning: Be careful not to click and drag existing polygons. If you accidentally move a boundary, use Ctrl+Z immediately to undo.
4. Download/Export for Sharing OExport as KMZ (for individual use):
1. Click the three dots (⋮) next to the Map Title (top left).
2. Select Export to KML/KMZ.
3. Choose "Entire Map" and ensure "Keep data up to date" is unchecked.
4. Download the .KMZ file.

5. Load into App Method 1 - Using Territory Code (if available):
1. If your congregation uses online records
2. Enter the 6-digit code in the "Load Territory by Code" box
3. Your maps will load automatically
4. Once loaded, you can use them offline

Method 2 - Load KMZ/KML Files:
1. Click "Choose (KML/KMZ) Files" in the Admin panel
2. Select your downloaded .KMZ or .KML files
3. Maps will appear on screen immediately

6. Using Offline Once maps are loaded, you can:
- Tap any territory to see its name and number (works without internet)
- Use GPS to see your location relative to boundaries
- Switch between Residential and Business views using the toggle at the top
- All map tiles you've viewed will be cached for offline use
